Don't Be Gaslit by Todd Cummings, SBCSC Superintendent

1. Low Enrollment: How to empty Clay High School

  •  Close the feeder middle school and send the kids to Edison, which feeds into Adams.  Kids follow their friends.
  • Remove effective staff that kept school safe.
  • Approximately 20% of Adams kids live in Adams District.  The other 80% are bussed in.
  • 7200 kids (ages 0-18) live in Clay and German Townships- 1/3 of all kids living in SBCSC District.
  • Don't update building, such as no air conditioning in the gym.

Clay High School should be full!

2. Too Costly? SBCSC will Lose $ Closing Clay

  • Clay & German Township paid for 40% of Adams and Washington updates and the Riley rebuild.  Nothing was spent on Clay.
  • SBCSC overstated update costs.
  • Closing will only save $1.1 million.  SBCSC plans to close all township schools.  How much will bussing cost?
  • Why would township families travel to failing schools?  they would travel to good schools.  How much money will SBCSC lose when they lose the township kids?-over $8,000 per head.

SBCSC used Referendum $ for Clay and Applied it to CTE - Theft?

  • SBCSC took Referendum money stated to taxpayers as going to Clay High School and instead is using it for a CTE Center.
  • The survey results showed overwhelmingly that taxpayers want 4 high schools for safety and better discipline.  They wanted an updated CTE center in one of the 4 high schools-not in new place.
